Scheduling Backups
After specifying the Data/Metadata backup settings, Save the project and then go to Tools->Create Scheduler File… to select the saved project file and enter in the credentials for the source environment from which the data/metadata backup should be taken.
Save the scheduler file.
The dataset definition will depend on what data you want to backup and the backup strategy you want to use. Take into consideration the size of the data you want to backup along with your network bandwidth. If you have 300 GB of data and can only download 30GB in 24 hours due to bandwidth constraints, your data backup process will take 10 days to complete. In this situation, you may want take a Full (all data) back up infrequently and take incremental backups frequently.
To decrease the amount of time it takes to perform a data backup, please use multiple credentials to connect to the source org.
Prevent Multiple Backup Jobs From Running Simultaneously
To prevent a scheduled backup job from executing while an existing job is still running, create a .bat file containing the following command (replace
Do not remove the double-quotes in the file path.
Next, launch the Windows Task Scheduler and create a Basic Task on a schedule. Use the "Start a Program" option and select the .bat file created in the previous step.
Ensure that the User Account the task runs under always remains logged in. This may require modifications to your company’s Windows Group Policies assigned to the server that automatically log out users after a pre-determined period of inactivity.
